What I liked about my First Ever Disney Cruise

I have been on several different cruises with different cruise lines and I have found that while I feel like they are all similar in a lot of ways, there are little differences with each one. In this article I share the things that I liked and stood out to me on my very first Disney cruise. The trip I took was on the Disney Magic, one of their smaller ships. Let’s start with my experience with dining on this ship. 

Dining

Most of my experiences with dining on cruise ships have been similar but the dining experience was a little different on the Disney Magic. Before we boarded, our party was assigned a dining schedule for each night of the cruise. While there are probably varying kinds of restaurants on the different ships, the Disney Magic had three different restaurants that guests rotated to throughout the trip. Instead of going to the same dining room each night, you will go to whatever dining room you are assigned to for that evening. Even though you are traveling to different restaurants, your wait staff will also go with you, meaning that you will still have the same waiters each night. This is such a unique way to make dinner special. 

One of the biggest perks I noticed at dinner was the wait staff. Not only are they wonderful at serving you and taking care of your needs but they also go out of their way to help with the kids in your party. The waiters we had made special things for the kids like origami animals as well as helped entertain them at different times during dinner. The added attention with the kids is very nice and can help parents enjoy their meal as well. 

Kids Club

If you are traveling with kids, one of the biggest perks for going on a Disney cruise is the kids club. Disney takes a lot of care to make sure it is a safe place for kids to have fun. If your child go to kids club and then later decides they want to leave, all they have to do is tell a kids club member and they will message the parents through the Disney cruise app to come and pick them up. There are also safety procedures they put in place like requiring parents to have a code word that is used when they pick up their child. The kids in our party loved getting to go to the kids club each day. It was also nice to know that the staff would communicate with the parents if their child no longer wanted to stay. This way, parents could attend different events during the day or hang out in the adult only area while their children are also having a great time.

Adult Only Area

Another thing that surprised me on the Disney Magic was the adult only area. Because this is a kid focused cruise line, there was hardly anyone hanging out in the adult area at any given time. I took one morning and went and read in this area and was pretty much alone while there. If you want to have a bit of solitude but still be out on one of the decks this was a great place to do that. 

Free Texting and Free Sodas

These two perks are not usually free on other cruise lines and were really nice additions to the cruise. While we were unable to send photos to family back home, we were able to still communicate and text back and forth. It was really nice staying in touch with those who didn’t go on the trip with us. On other ships you may be able to communicate with other guests on the ship through your app but most cruise lines make you buy a texting or internet plan to text others outside of the ship. Being able to text for free on Disney cruise line was a really nice perk.

In addition to the free texting, the free sodas were also a nice addition. Most cruise lines require you to purchase a drink package or bring your own soda cans with you if you want soda during the trip. Disney Magic had a small selection of sodas available at all times for guests for free. Having several drink options was a nice benefit.
