My Visit to the Dole Pineapple Plantation on Oahu, Hawaii
When you think about foods you eat in Hawaii, the first thing you might think about is pineapple. When I visited Oahu, Hawaii, I went to the Dole Plantation. I really enjoyed the visit and want to share a few things with you about this popular vacation stop. There are several different activities that you can participate in when you visit. When I visited I took the train tour and ate at the Plantation Grille. Along with these activities there are several other things you can do while there. Let’s start with talking about the pineapples themselves.Â
Pineapple Plants
One thing that was very special was getting to see pineapples growing in the field. Before this visit, I don’t think I had ever seen a pineapple plant growing. I loved getting to see how they grow. It is so unique. Each plant usually grows one pineapple at a time and takes at least one year to grow. I can’t imagine how many plants they have to have to grow all their pineapples! It makes you appreciate all the pineapples you see in the grocery store and how much effort and time went into each one.Â
Pineapple Express Train
The Pineapple Express is one of the activities that I participated in when I visited. This is a neat way to see more of the plantation grounds as well as some of the pineapples growing in the fields. If you have kids with you, this is also a fun ride for them. According to their website, there are up to four trains that run at varying times. Throughout the ride, a tour guide will share information about the plantation and its history. As of now, adults will pay $15 and children over 3 will pay $12.85 to ride the train. Plantation Garden and Garden Maze
Also on the plantation there is a large garden area where you can see different tropical flowers and plants. There were so many colorful plants I saw when I visited Oahu. They are very beautiful! If you haven’t seen Rainbow Bark Trees, the plantation can be a good place to see some. They are so neat. In the gardens, you are also able to see some amazing flowers and plants around the plantation. There is a cost to do the garden tour and you can click HERE for more information on its pricing.Â
Along with the garden, there is a neat pineapple maze you can wander through. The Garden Maze does cost to participate. Currently, it is $10 for adults and $8 for children older than 3 years old. Rainbow Bark Trees
Like I mentioned above, this is the first place I ever saw a Rainbow Bark Tree. If this is the only reason you went to the Pineapple Plantation, it would be worth it. You will find the Rainbow Bark Trees in the parking lot before you enter the plantation. It’s a great way to start your trip! These trees are so special and unique that I am so glad we made the trip to Dole Plantation to see them. Within the bark of the tree there are bright colors that show through like orange and green. God’s creation is amazing!
Plantation Grille
You can’t leave the Dole Plantation without trying one of the famous pineapple Dole Whips! Who wouldn’t love pineapple soft serve ice cream? You can grab desert only or try any of the Hawaiian themed dishes on their menu like a Loco Moco or Kulua Pork. If you want to see what is currently on their menu, you can see the menu HERE.Â
Gift Shop
Last but not least you will want to take a stroll through the gift shop before leaving. This is a great place to grab a souvenir from your time visiting the Dole Plantation. The gift shop was fairly large with all kinds of different things to buy. It’s definitely worth the walk through.
In addition to a souvenir from the gift shop, you can also have pineapples shipped back to your home from Hawaii. One word of caution here though, it’s not the most cost efficient way to enjoy a pineapple!
