First Time Cruising? Which Carnival Cruise Dining Option is Right for You?

Cruising can be so much fun! If you’ve never gone on a cruise before though it can feel a little overwhelming learning all the details and making decisions before you go. To help make at least one of those decisions a little easier let’s look at the pros and cons of choosing “Your Time Dining” verses “Early or Late Dining”.

Your Time Dining (Also Called Anytime Dining)

Pros:

One of the biggest pros of choosing “Your Time Dining” is that you get to pick when you go to dinner. If you like eating early or find yourself hungry earlier in the evening you can choose to head to dinner instead of having to wait. On the other hand, if you had a late lunch (or snacked all day) then you have the option of going later on in the evening. The other nice thing about this option is that you can change up when you eat each day to fit your schedule. This can be a great option to give you the freedom to go to any onboard activity and fit your dinner time around your plans.

If you like the idea of sitting in different places each evening, “Your Time Dining” is a great option. With this dining option you will be placed at an available table within the dining room once you arrive. Depending on the evening (and how many people are dining when you are) you may get to sit in different places throughout your cruise. It can also be fun to see the dinner time performances from different locations as well as see more of the dining room area.

Cons:

With “Your Time” Dining you can go to dinner when you choose but there is sometimes a bit of a wait as tables are first come first serve. For my family, we often chose to go to dinner as soon as we could check in. Since we checked in early, we didn’t have to wait long each night. At most we waited about 10-15 minutes and often times there was hardly any wait at all. Depending on your cruise though and when you choose to go to dinner there could be a wait, so you will want to check in early if possible.

Another downfall to “Your Time” dining is that each night you might have different servers. Due to the fact that you may be sitting at different locations in the dining room your wait staff could be different each night. If you like the idea of having the same servers each evening, then picking “Early or Late Dining” may be a better option for you.

Early and Late Dining

Pros:

If you like to eat dinner at the same time each night and have more of a set schedule then you might want to choose either “Early or Late Dining”. Depending on your preference you can choose to eat at the earlier hour or later hour.

With a set dining time you also can get to know your servers throughout your cruise. With “Early or Late Dining” you will most likely have the same wait staff each evening. This will allow you to get to know your serving staff during dinner and can help make for a more memorable experience for you and your family.

Cons:

One of the biggest cons for choosing “Early or Late dining” is the lack of flexibility. If you want to eat in the dining room, you will have to go to diner at the time you chose before cruising. You would then plan your activities around your dining time (Although there are always other places, like the buffet, to grab food if you prefer to eat at a different time). The good news is that most of the major evening shows typically have two showings so you can attend the one that does not correspond to your dinner hour.

So, to sum it all up… with “Your Time Dining” you can plan your dinner around your activities and with “Early or Late Dining” you can plan your activities around dinner.

Whatever dining option you choose, you’re sure to have a wonderful time cruising!
