What I Learned Visiting Botanica Wichita – Helpful Information For Your Visit

When visiting Wichita, the botanical gardens are a great place to spend a few hours. I had the opportunity to visit and enjoy all the scenery. Botanica Wichita is open every day of the week for guests to visit and see all the beautiful plants at their botanical gardens. Here are some of the features that stood out to me when I visited…

Cost: The first thing you will want to consider is the cost of entering Botanica. At the time we visited, we payed $10 for seniors and $12 for other adults. I did see on their website that if you were a Kansas resident there was a program that could allow you in for free during the summer. To check out any promotions they are currently running, you will want to check out Botanica’s website HERE. Even though the gardens are not as big as some others I have been to, the cost is appropriate for the size of the gardens.

Two Garden Areas: When we paid to enter Botanica, there were two gardens that we could walk through. We started with the Chinese Garden and then explored the rest of Botanica. The Chinese garden is right off the main building to the left of where you pay and is a smaller area. This area had a fairly large Koi pond along with other nice plants and flowers. I recommend taking a few moments to walk through this area when you visit. There is a path to the left with stairs and a path to the right without them for more accessibility. 

After the Chinese Garden we walked back through the welcome center and into the main part of the botanical gardens. This area included many plants, flowers and the children’s area. There are several different paths and areas to explore. I was surprised to see some unique plants I don’t remember seeing before. Here are a few pictures of the ones I thought were cool while I was were there… 

Children’s Garden/Play Area: The Children’s Garden is included in the price you pay to enter Botanica. This area is a great place for kids to play in and explore. There were fun tunnels to walk under, water to play in, and small buildings you could enter. In addition to those things, there is a play area for older and younger children where they can climb and explore. Kids will enjoy running around in this area and getting out some of their energy. Bird Path: There is also a small bird path within Botanica. Here you will see small statues of different birds on metal branches as well as different facts about various birds. Make sure you see the giant nest and take a picture with the turkey feathers before you leave! I tried to get my other family members to take a picture as a turkey, and I couldn’t get any takers, so I did it!

Special Exhibits: Often times botanical gardens will have special exhibits. When I visited Botanica they had a really neat exhibit called Origami in the Garden. These sculptures looked like someone had folded metal just like they would paper. This was one of my favorite parts of my visit. I couldn’t tell on the website how long this exhibit will be at the gardens but if you get a chance to go see it, I would recommend it. 

Botanica can be a neat and family friendly place to visit. You can also bring food in if you want to spend the day and picnic there. We went in the heat of the summer but I imagine it would be lovely to visit in the spring or fall as you spend the day exploring.
